Product Description
Designed for the backyard and urban farmer, the Portable Chicken Coop is an affordable and space efficient home for your backyard chickens. Modeled on the classic chicken ark that has served British hen-keepers for decades, the coop provides a healthy, predator-proof home for up to 4 medium laying hens or 6 Bantams. All Handcrafted Coops are made using plantation-grown, renewable Douglas Fir timber. Douglas Fir has a natural woody scent that repels insects, keeping your birds lice-free. All coops are stained with a non-toxic, low VOC, weather resistant paint. The Portable Chicken Coop covers less ground space than other chicken coops. As well as space efficiency, the covered run gives both hens and costly feed good weather protection. The traditional design satisfies your birds' natural instincts, allowing them to go up at night to roost. The coop has one full-length door allowing easy access to the lower run for feeding and watering and lets chickens exit and roam free. The nesting box, located at one end of the ark, has its own external egg collection door. A removable side door allows for easy cleaning of the upper roosting chamber. All Chicken Arks come with sturdy carrying handles for easy portability. Moved every couple of days, your chickens will mow and fertilize your lawn. The handcrafted chicken coop is built with care, designed to last a generation. It offers a healthy home for your chickens - secure from predators and harsh environmental elements. All coops are hand-made and flat-packed for easy shipping and simple assembly.

By Elizabeth A Kelleher
Pros - attractive, efficient design, easy to move.
Cons - wire hardware cloth sides are really narrow gauge. Concern that an animal could chew through it; for as much as this costs would expect stronger gauge. Wood is thin - same concern and feedback as wire. Poor packaging - coop was damaged in transit. Really small for four good sized hens. Not sure why they discontinued the "large" version but my four girls will grow out of this within a few months i am afraid.
Adding to the review 4 months in. The coop is really easy to clean and stable overall. We have not had any issues with predators accessing the inside, and we do have occassional raccoon, possum, and rats in the yard. Unfortunately, one of the hinges to the ramp has broken. Our hens haven't even started laying and we are already into coop repairs. Disappointed.

By acerbas
I purchased this coop because of the triangular shape, which is more stable geometrically than a rectangle. Doesn't have to be built as heavy to still be easily portable. So far, so good. But I have two major complaints about the construction. First, the tolerances are much too tight. Would work OK in a desert, but when we get heavy rains, as we do often here on the California coast, the wood absorbs moisture and the doors are impossible to close. I had to do a lot of sanding to get them even close to fitting. Second, the hardware is much too dainty. Its more like jewelry than what you need to function in this environment. It's all bent up by now. It should be about two magnitudes more sturdy. Oh, and I almost forgot, the twine that lowers the ramp is much too flimsy. It failed due to abrasion early on, and it was a pain to re-string it with some heavy duty nylon cord (which works fine, now.) However, although the design is elegant and aesthetically pleasing, it obviously was not designed by a farmer. More like a dilettante. With the right tolerances and hardware it could have been perfect. As it is, too much trouble to recommend.
